Beginner Topic: Solar

Solar power is becoming the norm for even small set ups.

Using middle components can often provide you with enough power if you manage your energy use.

Cheap all-in-one kits

Thunderbolt Magnum™ Solar 100 watt system (sold by harbour freight)
Coleman 40W Crystalline Solar Panel (sold by canadiantire)
Competition Solar 20-Watt Solar Panel (sold by lowes)

This is an okay answer to your power needs, but often provide a relatively small power output vs. investment cost. These systems have been designed by using the most inexpensive panels and cheapest connectors. Most of these systems are suitable for light and charging small devices like laptops and phones

Expensive all-in-one kits

GOAL ZERO YETI 150 PORTABLE POWER STATION & BOULDER 50 SOLAR PANEL KIT (by goalzero)

While these systems use higher grade components and connectors, the power output is relatively low despite the higher cost. Some of these systems have moved from standard lead acid/AGM batteries for lighter lithium ion. While using L-ion batteries is a substantial saving weight they are not compatible with standard battery chargers, this means in the primary system fails you will likely need to replace it all.
